Cosima Wagner Diaries

Loldi again unwell; in addition, household troubles, and R. obliged to write to the Intendant, Herr von Gilsa[1] in Kassel, who now suddenly refuses to grant leave also to Fräulein Haupt[2] (Freia). As Herr Jauner remains silent, R. sends a telegraphs to Richter. Fräulein Scheffsky, who should have arrived today, cancels on account of catarrh! Sieglinde?? Much discussion with Professor Doepler concerning the Nibelung hoard, and then also about reducing the ornamentation as much as possible; I, for example, beg that Brünnhilde be given no bridal attire, and that Wotan wear no embroidered mantle in the great scene with Brünnhilde.

[1] Baron von und zu Gilsa, director of the Kassel Opera since 1849.

[2] Marie Haupt sang Freia and Gerhild in Bayreuth in 1876 and later married the singer Georg Unger.
