R. receives a letter from Councillor Düfflipp, saying that the King is displeased because, in his telegram, R. had not thanked His Majesty for the birthday telegram! … Final rehearsal of Rheingold, the children present. It proceeds marvellously. Frau Materna and Herr Niemann have arrived. — Visit from the Lord Chamberlain, Count Castell; it affords me a certain satisfaction that Richter, the proscribed man in Munich, should be the very one obliged to procure the Count admission to the theatre.
