Cosima Wagner Diaries

The King sends his life-sized photograph; Dr Strecker[1] (B. Schott’s Söhne successors) pays us a visit and brings the score of “Siegfried”. He gives us pleasure by his very courteous demeanour. Constant dictation and work with Boni. —

In the evening we begin the pamphlet “On the Present Condition of the German Empire”, which Prof. de Lagarde[2] has sent me; it contains much that is excellent (the abandonment of Austria, a critique of the present schools), but also a good deal of confused theological admixture.

[1] Dr. Ludwig Strecker (1853 – 1943) managed the Schott publishing house from 1875, later becoming its owner.
[2] Paul de Lagarde (1827 – 1891), German conservative cultural philosopher, also wrote political essays, which appeared in 1874, and “On the present situation of the German Reich”, 1876.
