R. wrote down a theme that had come to him in the evening, and finds that the counter-theme can consist only in inversion; in the ear, he says, there are spectra of melody, as in the eye spectra of light. Dictation; visits with R. — Herr Groß brings a note from Feustel, stating that he has received a letter from Berlin according to which it would appear advisable to present the petition personally to both the Reichstag and the Prince. R. strongly opposed. Bismarck’s secretary writes somewhat obscurely, yet also implying that the difficulties would be lessened were one to address oneself to the Reichstag! R. replies that he cannot apply to the Reichstag for an advance, and that he appeals to the grace of the Emperor and to the reason of the Reich Chancellor, but not to the opinion of the gentlemen of the Reichstag.
