Cosima Wagner Diaries

Letters, one very good letter from Standhartner, with an accounting of the royalties; then, as ever, a fine letter from the King, a sorrowful one from Hofrat Düfflipp, lamenting the distress of the court treasury. R. telegraphs that he has resolved not to go to the Reichstag and instead to give concerts in Brussels. Indeed, a conference yesterday with Feustel and the Mayor showed that the state of emergency is not so pressing, and that a rejection by the Reichstag would discredit our entire cause; Bismarck, moreover, probably desires nothing but such a rejection in order to justify his own conduct. In the evening we finished the “History of the Arabs” by Dozy:[1] Motamit![2] R. says that they are less sympathetic to him than the Castilian Christian heroes.
