No dictation today! R. is occupied with business matters; to be referred to the Reichstag while he had appealed to the Emperor’s mercy deeply outrages him! After dinner we fall to speaking of the fate of “Tannhäuser”; to this work there is linked an unbroken chain of the most grievous experiences. [Greatly shocked to learn that Pusinelli was never paid (about 5,000 thalers), and here I solemnly lay it as a duty upon my son Siegfried, should he ever come into possession of a larger sum of capital, to discharge this debt to the descendants of Dr. Pusinelli.[1]] In the evening a gloomy mood.
